Canada Post Workers on Strike, Services Disrupted Nationally

Local businesses are advised that Canada Post workers are on strike nationwide, with services currently disrupted and no return to work on the horizon.

President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers Local #554, Glen Hayward, says the government is refusing to come to the table and negotiate.

“It all happened so fast,” said Hayward. “The government has totally refused to negotiate and won’t even come to the table. The union said we were on strike as of 7 pm last night. It’s a total nationwide shutdown. It affects everybody.

They want to bring in part-time with no pension for six months, part-time work, and cut out overtime. And with tariffs and the cost of living, we do need some sort of cost-of-living increase. They just say they’re losing money. We don’t know what to do. It’s very tough.

Apologies to the public, but hopefully they understand the situation we’re in. We’re hoping for the best, that’s all we can do,” adds Hayward.

As it stands, Canada Post customers can expect delays. Canada Post says mail and parcels will not be processed or delivered throughout the strike, no new items will be accepted, and some Post Offices will be closed.
